🚨 UPDATE: MAN FOUND DECEASED IN CANAL FOLLOWING WEST PHOENIX CRASH 🚨
Phoenix Police have confirmed that a man found deceased in a canal near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road was the driver involved in a crash the previous day.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. on September 27, 2026, officers responded to a single-vehicle collision near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road. Police say the vehicle struck a utility pole and a nearby building. Witnesses reported seeing the driver flee the scene on foot and enter a nearby canal.
Officers, along with a police helicopter, conducted an extensive search of the canal but were unable to locate the driver.
The following day, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Phoenix Police were notified that a deceased individual had been found in the canal near the same area. With assistance from fire department personnel, the individual was recovered and identified as 43-year-old Nicholas Anderson.
Detectives later confirmed that Anderson was the driver involved in the crash the previous morning.
The Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death following a postmortem examination.
