Accessibility Statement
Breaking news only matters if everyone can reach it. Here's where we stand and how to tell us when we fall short.
Our commitment
Phoenix News aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA across the public site. Accessibility is checked as part of our pre-launch review and again whenever we ship a significant change to the homepage, article pages, the live page or the incident map.
What's in place today
- • Semantic headings, landmarks and lists so screen readers can navigate story structure.
- • Keyboard access to navigation, menus, forms, the map feed and the media player controls.
- • Visible focus outlines and tap targets sized for one-handed phone use.
- • Alternative text on newsroom images, and labels on icon-only buttons.
- • Status conveyed with text as well as color — badges read BREAKING, LIVE or DEVELOPING, not color alone.
- • Animations, including the homepage skyline and ticker, respect the reduced-motion setting on your device.
Known limitations
Embedded third-party video players and live streams follow the accessibility features of those platforms, which we do not control. Live captions on breaking coverage depend on the streaming platform. Older archived stories may lack complete image descriptions; we fix these as we find them.
Report a barrier
If any part of Phoenix News is hard to use, tell us what page and what happened through the contact page. We treat accessibility reports as priority fixes and will reply with a plan.
